well, i got to work on my car this weekend. beautiful weather to work with too! my task for saturday was to tuck away some more wires and lines, and to pull the interior.

as promised, here's a picture of the drivers side of the engine bay. you can compare this with the one in the last post. i rerouted the three fuel lines and hid the cable that pops open the hood.

another step i'm taking is changing the way the air filter sits, as well as the type of filter used. i've put a rubber pipe connection on the front of the motor and set the new air filter box lid in place, but nothing is attached yet!

before i show you what the inside looks like when it's empty, i figured i'd show you everything i took out. don't worry, it's not all sitting out in someone's yard for the rest of the week. i pick everything up before i go home each day.

here's with only carpet... it's not real, real dirty (i mean, i could clean it up pretty good), but i really want black carpet anyways, so it's trash.

and here's after pulling the carpet out! i need to bring out my vacuum and suck up all the sand and dirt hiding in all the crevices, then i'll start laying down some sound deadening.

well thats all for now, i'll probably spend some time this week cleaning all the interior plastics before i put them back in. i also have decided to redo the headliner like i did in my daily driven nissan. next step for the engine bay is a good cleaning...

more recent work

now that i've got the title and the bird is legally mine i've been spending more time working on it.

here she is currently. no bumper, fenders air filter box, windshield wipers, etc. all four wheels are off the ground too.

this is the passenger side of the engine bay. i've pulled the battery and am moving it to the trunk. i also have started to hide the a lot of wires. the more green area towards the left used to have a whole slew of wires laying there. the box in the upper right corner is for a/c. it'll be gone soon too.

here's the radiator. there used to be a second one here that was for the a/c. it's now gone. i still have to clean it up a bit, but there's a lot more room down here now. also, the wires hanging in the middle went to the windshield washer spray. that's gone too.

this is the driver's side of the engine bay. towards the bottom right there's an empty bracket where the fuses used to sit. on the bottom left, you can see the tube where the air filter box used to be attached. that piece will be gone soon too. the group of lines that kind of circle the picture are gas lines. i'm going to reroute those so theyre not so visible as well. think of this as a before picture. i'll post another one of this area after i move the rest of the stuff.

thats all for now, let me know what you think.

first modifications

throughout the summer i didn't do too much. the guy was taking his time getting the title to me, probably because the state dept. is too full of lazy sloth like people. i didn't feel comfortable working on it much when it wasn't legally mine yet. so here's what i accomplished while waiting on the title.

first i removed about 15 lbs of trash from the previous driver. also found a few dollars worth of change.then i put some new brake pads and rotors on the front to stop the crazy shaking from the rotors being warped.

i also removed the rear seats. the leather was all torn and rotted. and they probably accounted for some of the wet dog smell. carpet will go soon too.

lastly, for this post, i put on a headlight and fender bought on ebay. she's multi-colored now, but at least she's all there.

Introductions

hello all,
a few months ago (may 09) i found an add on craigslist from some small town in georgia. 1993 firebird $1500, some damage. too good to be true? well i chatted with the guy and made the trip. turns out the car had hit a deer messing it up, though not too bad. the leather interior had dried and rotted as well. but the car overall was in great shape and not molested by a lead-footed teen like i was.

this blog is my record of what i've done to my new car.
